Retirement home saves R8000 a monthThe Rosendal home in Pretoria has cut its electricity bill drastically by using solar water heating
By replacing its conventional geyser with 72 solar hot water panels, the Rosendal retirement home in Arcadia, Pretoria was able to reduce the electricity consumed for hot water production by nearly 80%. While saving money the home is also contributing to the environment
Like many retirement homes, Rosendal needed to cut down on steadily increasing monthly running costs. By analysing its monthly expenses it became clear that a major factor is the electricity consumed for the heating water needs. A search for an alternative led Rosendal to contact SunTank.
As a first step, SunTank commissioned an independent energy audit of the retirement home. Analysing the findings, SunTank designed and installed a solar system consisting of 72 solar panels and at the request of Rosendal replaced their old geyser with SunTank geysers totalling 7200 litres of storage capacity.
The independent energy auditor reported a reduction of close to 80% in the electricity consumed for hot water. Rosendal now save around R8000 every month on its electricity bill.
It is obvious: The system saves money, but at the same time it saves the environment as well. It is well known: Electricity in South Africa is produced by coal burning plants, which results in Carbon dioxide emission. This in return aggravates the green house effect that leads to global worming.
The elderly people at Rosendal not only save themselves money. They also save the environment for generations to come. |
